notes from nobody · 名無し

Who am I? None of your business!

What is this?

This is my ultra special pinned blog post that's basically an "About me" page but I didn't want to build a bespoke "About me" page because effectively an "About me" page is just a special blog and doesn't really need any additional features that I couldn't recreate in Markdown.

Okay, who are you actually?

I'm just a guy. A software engineer among other things. Like many generic nerdy guys, I'm a bit of a multi-genre gamer and weeb. I also entertain random esoteric interests from time to time, but my most evergreen (ha!) hobby is horticulture. I'm rather annoying and opinionated on things I either understand well or don't understand at all.

What is this place?

A blog I built. Not because existing blogs are bad or anything but it's fun to build things even if 10000 versions of it already exist. I may open source it or I may not. Who knows?

What's with the Japanese?

Oh, yeah. I'm trying to learn Japanese. So, you might see some shitty translations of my blogposts from time to time. Don't expect them. They're just for fun and my own learning.

Okay, but what is this place for?

Honestly, just a place for me to sorta shout into the void. I like journaling, but it's nice to pretend like someone is going to read what I'm going to say. If you want to know what kinds of topics I may regularly talk about, it includes, but is not guaranteed to include or is not limited to:

  • Project musings
  • Thoughts on tech, although most likely rants about AI and meta rants about AI discourse
  • Personal thoughts/journaling (likely set as private, sorry weirdos)
  • Maybe sometimes I'll talk about music

Any disclaimers?

I'm very thankful for you, Mr. Imaginary Interrogator. I'll use this section to set the tone for some of my very high level and not-well-thought-out stances on things.

  1. I very rarely claim to be an expert. Most things I talk about will be from my personal experience and expertise. I am a professional, reasonably successful software engineer, but I don't claim to be a true expert in my field or hold an opinion above anyone else. For all other things, I am definitely NOT an expert
  2. I'm often times inflammatory or hyperbolic. I think I'm a nice guy, but this is my weird journalesque blog so I don't intend on holding back much unless I think it'll come back to haunt me when the data harvesting hivemind figures out how to associate this with my social security number
  3. Okay, so, like, I'm in tech. I have an opinion on AI. I think it's relatively nuanced, but as I said in point 1, I am not an expert. My very, very high level view of AI is that it can be an effective tool in nearly any field. When I say any field, I really mean any field. I think it has applications in engineering. I think it has applications in art. I think it has applications in finance. I don't think AGI is going to suddenly take over the world and leave everyone jobless. I don't think it's going to replace legitimate human influence and expression. I do like that it allows more people to explore things outside of their direct skill sets. I don't think it's going to replace those with actual skill and craft, but it can amplify the power of those people, but there will always exist people who operate at great levels without it. Also, disclaimer, I used AI to write some of the code this website uses. So, if it gets hacked somehow, blame Anthropic. I'll probably end up posting (ranting) more about AI in the future
  4. I'm purposefully anonymous. I don't like having a super big presence online, but I like existing and putting some of my ideas out there

Can I contact you?

Maybe in the future but for now I'm going to treat this as just a void to shout into. If there happen to be individuals such as yourself that aren't me reading it, I just hope you find some value in what you read.

Anything else?

Probably, I'll edit this from time to time. I may add a section linking out to specific pseudoanonymous profiles of mine here eventually.
